PG- Season of Ponies (one slightly scary scene)
Snyder writes children's books, some of which can be considered fantasy. Her work is generally aimed at 9-12 year old girls. She tends to have rather simplistic plots, and the works reviewed here are unlikely to become classics, but for the voracious reader who isn't mature enough for most SF and Fantasy, these books can be fun.
Not the most original book I've ever read, Season of Ponies nevertheless will probably appeal to young horse-lovers. Pamela lives at Oak Farm with her aunts, but she wants to travel with her father when she gets old enough. Her Aunt Sarah, however, disapproves of this plan and insists that Pamela stay on the farm. Before he leaves, however, her father gives her an amulet from her grandmother. The result is a wild summer with a troupe of ponies and a wild boy known as Ponyboy, and Pamela learns about magic, secrets, and willpower. The plot that Ponyboy gets her involved in is not at all unexpected, but the writing is reasonably mature for a children's book.
